WICB: We're Indeed Chris' Bitches

What the fuck! Not only is Chris Gayle coming back to international cricket, he is CAPTAINING the West Indies once again. Darren Ganga, the man who showed the whole world that cricket is not dead in West Indies, has been overlooked because his batting is not up to par with international standards.

Agreed. He has a freaking miserable international average. But how can that be the major criteria to be captain? Batting average can be improved with practice. Can Gayle's arrogant, stubborn, fucking money-hungry nature be improved?

The West Indies players get next to nothing compared to other international cricketers and their cricket board is a fucking joke (they might have beaten PCB, BCB and BCCI!), so the strike wasn't completely unjustified. But nobody believes Gayle when he says things like 'It's always an honour to Captain West Indies'. He doesn't give a shit about his national team. I remember watching him against the Poms after he was pulled away from IPL2. WI was playing disgracefully and the fucker just stood there in the field looking completely disinterested as the Poms piled on runs. Probably counting the amount of money he was losing by not playing in the show-off galore in his head. And has he even guided the Windies to any series victories? Man, now I really wish Brian Lara was captain!

I am so fucking pissed! I want to know what kind of services Gayle has been providing the WICB while Ganga was away working hard to build his career. I am pretty sure it was the 'under the table' kind.

Woah, cool down, Purna! :)

OK, I have to admit, the whole deal abt the averages is really stupid as I believe in the concept of having a specialist captain if he can really lift the team!

However, I don't know if you read Tony Cozier's article on Cricinfo abt the captaincy debate.

He said that, though Ganga was a good T&T captain, he found it difficult to solve the rifts that had emerged in the West Indies A team. As you'd know, WI is a multi-national team and it does take special skills to be able to keep players from different countries cohesively rather than when compared to people of the same nation.

CG seems to have been quite good at bringing the players together...you have to admit, their performances are much more watchable than before and, with the gr8 squad that they've selected for the Aus tour, I really think that they can at least lose the series 2-0 with 2 close matches, if not draw the series 1-1.
As for his laidback attitude....Chris Gayle is Chris Gayle! There were jokes doing the rounds last year that CG is so laid back that he might even fall off his chair! ;)

I think Gayle is an arrogant git and laid back to the point of laziness at times - remember when he told the world he hated running? You're a batsman for heavens sakes - how can you not want to run??

He is good, though, I'll admit. I haven't forgiven him for hitting that huge one against Australia at the Oval in the T20 world cup.

Have you been to the Caribbean? Gayle is like Ironman Dick Hoyt there! I remember when a bunch of us landed at Barbados and made our way to the hotel. The staff we're all sleeping (it was admittedly around 1am) and the drunk watchman very reluctantly took us to our rooms and refused to take to bother about registration formalities. After fumbling with the keys for 10 minutes, I grabbed it from him and opened the door myself. I don't even think he noticed, he was probably just relieved I could leave him be. He was about to slowly trudge off when we inquired about if it was possible to get a drink anywhere, at which point his eyes lit up and was full of energy and took us down to the bar. I think he made up the prices as he went along, but we got two or three complimentary drinks soon enough, so everyone was happy.

CT, I hadn't read that. Honestly, I don't think Gayle has anything to do with Windies performance. Bravo, Edwards and all are passionate about their game and they try really hard. And I don't think I've ever seen them perform as a team under Gayle? As far as I can remember, there were individual perfomances here an there...except for maybe the T20 game against England.

Sid, I agree. He is freaking arrogant and only cares about himself. Even if he is a good batsman.

Ach, you got some good stories eh? Yeah, WI is a chilled place. BUT, as a captain, at times he needs to do shit to turn the game in their favour no?

MJ, I am glad you and I can hate him together now :D.
