Thank you Australian Press

"Have the West Indies really sent their full-strength team to Australia? Surely the real team must be still on strike, because if this is the best the combined might of the Caribbean can muster, then Test cricket is in terminal decline"
-
The Australian

"The series should be cancelled and all tickets refunded"
-
Brisbane Courier-Mail

Today showed test match cricket is alive and well. There's also a lot of life left in the West Indies why so many people were writing off as a test playing nation. We weren't able to get on top of them today and they deserve their lead going into day four tomorrow. This test will go right down to the line.

Ricky Ponting, after day three

Don't know if that statement from Ricky was PR work or he actually meant it. Regardless, the negativity of the Australian Press is fucking annoying. When Australia lose, they obsess over the demise of their team. I get it. Australia used to be in a different stratosphere once upon a time and now they look very much beatable. It's a hard pill to swallow for sports-loving Australians. But fuck, at least obsess over their wins when it does happen!

We all know West Indies is in a sorry state and they have a douche bag for a captain. But going as far as "series should be cancelled and all tickets refunded" over one test? Who the fuck do you think you are? India (another cricket loving nation) also won their second test against Sri Lanka by an innings. And the first test was a pathetic to watch. Did you see anyone talking about cancelling that? Instead they celebrated the win. How very strange of them!

Anyway, now that Benn has orchestrated a brilliant Australian collapse and the Windies are 39 runs ahead, I'm guessing they have gone back to talking about the 'end of Australian cricket'. What a waste of paper!

Go here to read Tony Cozier's thoughts on the issue.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

I am so rooting for the Windies winning this test. Australia are hardly the team they were and while the team gets that, their media has still not accepted that.

Gayle the Whale is doing well. I don't know how I feel about that. But Benn bowled so well in the first innings that he deserves the win.

They are tough bastards the Australian media. Idiots.

Australians are still struggling to get over the fact that we are not the world beating side of the 90s. Most fans (not all - have you ever been to the cricket australia page on facebook? Some freaks there) would have preferred the West Indies to put up some type of fight at the Gabba and are happy that they are doing so in Adelaide.

Having said that, we still want to win. But so far as refunding tickets, what a load of arrogant crap. I hate it when a few morons (again, I refer you to the CA facebook page) make us all look like arseholes.

I don't think Ponting was just being politic; all evidence from the past suggests that he isn't really capable of that (he's not Sir Steven [we are not worthy] after all). I think he was being a true cricket fan.

Wish there were more of us.

I agree with Sid, most proper Aus fans are pleased that the Windies are putting on a real show and putting the Aussies under pressure. I am.

I was slightly shocked at how chuffed I was at Gayle getting the 150. I find the savagery of the Oz press embarrassing.

I've never bothered with facebook CA page. I would have assumed it is about the level of Youtube and it sounds about right from Sid.

Punter would have meant what he said. He can't have wanted a shambles like the last test. He is a cricket fan after all. I don't think he is very good at PR, not that I've noticed anyway. It is one of the appealing aspects about him and fair enough, there isn't that many.

Australia is a good team and they showed every one else how determined you should be and how you should fight till the last moment.

But I only dislike them due to their attitude towards other team specially low tier teams and their attitude towards victory and loss.

Australia has major issues this decade regarding umpiring, bowling actions, on-field and off-field controversies etc. That just not a great team like Australia should behave. Power comes with responsibility and thats I think no one ever understood in this world.

Hey hey! Mind your language about Gayle! He may look like a laid-back dude, but he sure is leading the way with his bat! ;)

Sid, no I haven't been to the CA fb page. But you are right. Some of the people on Punter's fb page shock me!

Vim, I wouldn't say I was chuffed but yes, I am glad that the 5th day is going to be so interesting. Gayle still doesn't know who Bollinger is though! At the pre-match interview he was like, "What's his name, Bollinger?". I laughed so hard.

Reverse, yeah I agree. But they do like good cricket. When Mohammad Ashraful stunned them with that century, they admired his courage. I like that about Australians.

CT, he's just answering his critics. That makes him a douche bag. He isn't doing it for the team, otherwise he would have done this before. He certainly has the capbility!
