Captain Wimp

I have come to the conclusion with a heavy heart that Bangladesh's premium fast bowler is a wimp of epic proportions. Think James Cameron movies, intergalactic wars, a special part of Pamela Anderson's body.

At the mere mention of captaincy, he contracted a fever. On the day of their flight to New Zealand. But before that, evidently, Mashrafe had already opted himself out of the one test they are scheduled to play against the Kiwis.

"Mashrafe Mortaza has told the BCB he doesn't want to captain the team in New Zealand because he is returning home after the one-dayers"- according to Crapinfo.

What the fuck is that supposed to mean? How does the friggin' captain get to opt himself out of a test if he is fit?

It's not like he has much to do. Nod yes to Shakib's field changes, lead the bowling attack like he used to before, tell Crashraful he has been dropped and give Jamie Siddons a massage once in a while. What is so hard about this? Whatever plans he comes up with, the players will take matters in their own hands at some point in the game and fuck up.

I think it's time I captain Bangladesh.

You've got cricinfo quoted wrong on that one...

they say He has requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board not to consider him for the captaincy, which means that Shakib Al Hasan will continue as captain

I think it's extremely magnanimous of him to do so, so that the team will have stability in terms of a captain...I suppose that you could say that Shakib would be the captain for a fair amount of time since Mash does get injured once in a while..

I copied and pasted it from the picture they have on there Thiru. I disagree. Shakib is still new to the game. He needs to focus on allowing himself to grow. I am extremely worried about the fact that he bowls a good 20-30 overs more than the other bowlers.
But yes, Mashrafe is always injured. Idiot that he is.

I hate to be a stats freak, but here are some stats..

As captain
3 tests, 187 runs @ 34.7, 17 wickets @ 24.76
17 ODIs, 581 runs @ 44, 17 wickets at 38

Not as captain,
13 tests, 603 runs @ 26, 40 @ 30
62 ODIs, 1600 runs @ 33, 68 wickets @ 30

As you can see, all his stats have gone up with the captaincy...the wickets in tests have been a bit more expensive, but I suppose those figures should become better with time...

Besides, he seems to be really rallying around the team well, so I don't see why he shouldn't be captain.

It's gone better in time because he became a much more confident and experienced bowler when he took the captaincy. Don't get me wrong, Shakib will have a long career as a captain but there was a reason Mortaza was given the job and Shakib made his deputy. Mortaza should at least give it a try. What is the worse that could happen? Shakib will be on the field with him all the time.

We need a player that can last long. The reason Mortaza is always injured is because he had to carry the Bangladesh bowling for a long, long, long time. Shakib is far more talented than he is and I would be sad if the same happened to Shakib.
